Estancia Huechahue

Estancia Huechahue is a working 15,000 acre estancia with 900 head of cattle, to be found just outside San Martin de los Andes. It is run by Jane Williams and provides the perfect base if you want to explore the Andean foothills on horseback, fish or simply experience life on a true working estancia helping the gauchos. There are three guest lodges with a total of eight twin/double ensuite rooms.

If you are a rider then you are in for a real treat as Estancia Huechahue has many great 'Criollo' horses and you can enjoy some fast riding over the open landscape. All levels of riding ability are catered for. You are encouraged to get involved as much as possible. One day you may find yourself helping to round up cattle and at other times you may find yourself chilling out under a pine tree having a siesta after a wonderful asado (BBQ) having feasted on ribs of beef or homemade sausages.

There is also good fly-fishing on the estancia or off-estancia fishing can be arranged at extra cost.

Riding-wise, all levels of riding ability can be catered for. The Argentine Criollo horses are forward-going and willing, yet 'sensible types' in general. If an experienced rider, know that the riding on the estancia can be fast and demanding at times as mentioned above. The riding opportunities are almost limitless. Estancia Huechahue is proud of its self-sufficiency whether that be in the form of almonds, fruit, meat, vegetables, even electricity.
