Los Cerros
Los Cerros is located just outside the town of
This is the place to come if you want to get away from the crowds. As it is a three hour road transfer to reach El Chalten many visitors to this part of Patagonia don’t venture this far. Those that do make the trip are richly rewarded.
Los Cerros has a good restaurant serving local dishes and provides a great base from which to hike some of the scenic trails which are literally on the doorstep. The town of El Chalten was established in 1985 and Los Cerros was built just three years ago. It sits above the town but within easy walking distance, so you have the option to eat in the town if you choose.
Children are welcome at the hotel but there is no babysitting service. There are restrictions on the excursions; for example children under 10 may not visit the Viedma glacier.
There is a minimum 2 night stay at Los Cerros. There are no set arrival or departure dates and full or half-board terms are available. Overnight camping trips can be arranged with advance notice.
The lodge is closed between mid-April and mid-October. El Calafate is a three hour flight from Buenos Aires. It is best to arrive on a morning flight, so that you arrive at Los Cerros in time for lunch.
"Dark wood exteriors and a red zinc roof give Los Cerros a functional look. But there's a real buzz around the bar-restaurant inside and huge views of the beautiful Las Vueltas valley. Young, friendly staff make Los Cerros a welcoming refuge after a trek in the Fitz Roy massif."
