Without doubt this is a beautiful city and the ‘spiritual’ capital of Brazil. Known as the ‘Marvellous City’ and synonymous with the girl from Ipanema, the dramatic view from the Sugar Loaf and the famous Carnival celebrations. Rio is a city of stunning architecture, luxury boutique hotels, good museums and great food. There are 23 beaches, an almost continuous 45 mile ribbon of sand. Christ the Redeemer on Corcovado Mountain gives an even higher perspective of the city and is the most well known and recognised landmark of Rio. You can take a tram up to the statue - the best view is on the right-hand side.
