British Passport Holders do not require a visa to enter Guatemala but also make sure that your passport has at least six months to run from when you return back into the UK.
When to go
There’s no bad time for visiting Guatemala, though the rainy season – makes getting around more difficult from mid-May to mid-October, and into November and December in the north and east. In the lowland jungles of El Petén, the mud at this time will slow you down, guaranteed. In the highlands things get cold and damp during the rainy season, especially at night. It doesn’t rain all day during the rainy season, but expect daily showers (downpours in the north) at the very least. The dry season is from about November to April, and means sweltering heat in El Petén and along the coasts and comfortably warm days in the highlands. In the eastern parts of the country, rain is possible at any time.
Getting There
Generally it takes between fifteen and sixteen hours to get to Guatemala City. There are no direct ways of getting to Guatemala City and the options are to travel either via Europe with Iberia or via America with British Airways or Continental.
Time Difference
GMT -6
A visit to Guatemala combines really well with Belize, Costa Rica and also Mexico. As an example you can easily fly into Guatemala City, then fly to San Jose, Costa Rica (app. 2 hr flight) and then return directly home from there.
