Hotel Altiplanico

Hotel Altiplánico is well located in spacious grounds on the edge of San Pedro with 32 ensuite rooms and terraces facing towards the Andes. There is a swimming pool with a great view to the Andes and volcanoes. It offers an ideal place to relax and immerse yourself in the peaceful surroundings of the Atacama Desert.

The architecture of the Altiplanico blends with the landscape, reflecting the original construction of the people who inhabited these Andean highlands. The serene and unpretentious atmosphere at the lodge makes for a laid-back stay. Of an adobe construction (with a certain kind of Balinese flavour) only materials native to the area have been used such as wood from the chañar tree, mud, tar, straw, and stone.

The hotel is about 1km from the centre of San Pedro de Atacama or a 15 minute dusty walk away in the afternoon heat. You will need to borrow a torch from reception if coming back at night, for taxis aren’t plentiful. All the roads in San Pedro are unpaved. Also, there are no mod-cons. It should be noted that this is a basic hotel with no tv, a/c or mini bar and so may not suit everyone.
