Our Rustic Luxury honeymoon itinerary combines Chile with Bolivia. It focuses on the north of Chile, so think deserts, salt flats and wide open spaces. Below is the itinerary which includes explora's excellent 'travesia' itinerary.
This is an adventurous trip suited to honeymooners who don't really want to go down the 'luxury boutique hotel' route. This trip is mainly camping, but also has a bit of luxury thrown in too as you begin with a couple of nights at the explora hotel in San Pedro de Atacama to acclimatise you.

HONEYMOON ITINERARY

Day 2: Arrive Santiago early in the morning. Transfer to your hotel for a two night stay. Afternoon city tour to get your bearings.
Day 3: Day trip to Valparaiso with lunch at the Zero hotel.
Day 4: Morning flight to Calama (2 hrs) then transfer to the explora hotel in San Pedro de Atacama. Arrival at the Hotel de Larache, located in the San Pedro de Atacama desert at 2,500 meters above sea level.
Days 5/6/7: Choose from a variety of excursions. By foot, by bicycle, or by horseback, for a few hours or a full day, low-key or demanding. These trips will allow you to adjust to the altitude and prepare yourself for crossing the Bolivian Altiplano, and experience the complete geography of the Atacama, its wildlife and ancient local culture.
At the end of each day you can rest and relax back at the comfy hotel.
Day 8: Early departure from the explora. Cross the Bolivian border. An amazing walking day seeing mountains, volcanoes, salt flats, flamingos, lakes and wetlands along the way. Camp tonight at 4,300m.
Day 9:Early start to continue the journey through the Bolivian altiplano, at altitudes that vary between 4,300 and 3,600 meters above sea level. Camp tonight at 3,750m.
Day 10: Salar de Uyuni, with a surface of more than 10 thousand square kilometers and located at 3,665 meters above sea level, this is the largest and highest salt desert in the world. Third night of camping at 3,300m near a small village on the shore of the Salar.
Day 11: Good morning's walk to the base of the Tunupa volcano, at 5,432 meters in altitude. In the late afternoon, visit small villages on the shore of the Salar: Tahua, Coquesa and Jirira. Camping at same place as last night.
Day 12: Head back towards the Chile border. Camp tonight in Isluga National Park, at 4,020 metres.
Day 13: Begin the descent from the altiplano to Iquique, from 4000m down to sea level. Night in Iquique.
Day 14: Transfer to the airport at Iquique for your flight back to Santiago. Overmight here.
Day 15: Depart for home.
