Remota is an intriguing hotel from the outside and inside it is nothing short of breath-taking. All of the surfaces, from the black-stained lenga-wood molding to the slate and coconut fibre on the guest-room floors,were crafted locally for a feel that's as close to the fishing and herding culture as it is to the land.

The rooms are spacious, light with far-reaching views over Last Hope Sound. Remota was designed by world renowned Chilean architect German Del Sol (designer of the explora hotels) and the hope is that guests will relax and feel removed from their busy lives.

Remota's restaurant prides itself on its fresh local produce, great Chilean wine and local fish.

There are over 30 different excursions to choose from all led in small groups by expert, bilingual guides. They include: rides, kayak trips (only in winter as otherwise usually too windy) and biking trails.

Remota also offers trips outside Torres del Paine Park. With classic hikes around the park, condor spotting, horse-riding or visit a local sheep farming estancia there will always be something different to do. Then you can return to the indoor infinity pool, enjoy a massage or sauna or maybe a jacuzzi under the stars.

This is not a traditional hotel, it is beautiful and funky with bold, angular furniture and space. It is just a few miles from the small town of Puerto Natales. The new road into the park means that the entrance to the Torres del Paine National Park is an hour away but to get to the main hiking area is another couple of hours drive.

Remota is open all year round. Any time is a great time to visit as each season has its attractions. High season is between November and April. Remota offer 5 programmes: 3, 4, 7, 10 and 14 nights.
