Portillo
Portillo is the oldest ski area in South America and holds an important place in skiing history. The Portillo ski and resort experience is unique. There is only one hotel; the Grand Hotel Portillo and there is no neighbouring town so Portillo is a totally self-contained resort nestled in the magnificent Andean peaks.
There are 123 room, including doubles, family apartments and suites, and they all have a view of the mountains or the lake. The lake view is especially spectacular. Rooms do not have a TV but telephone, safe, hairdryer, mini-bar, Wi-Fi Internet access throughout the hotel as well as a modern Internet Room. The housekeeping staff will be pleased to help you in any way they can albeit a band-aid, laundry or a mending job.
Portillo is not just for skiing and snowboarding but socialising and relaxing; renovating and restoring body and mind in a natural and spectacular environment. It has been South America's premier destination ski resort for over 50 years and is famous for its majestic Andean setting and powder snow. All just 2 hrs 15 mins from Santiago.
Portillo operates on a Saturday to Saturday basis with limited numbers of day skiers. The resort caters for all levels of skiing and snowboarding abilities; beginners to world champions. The maximum number of guests at the resort can handle at any time is 450. Guests are looked after by 480 members of staff!
We are sure you will enjoy Portillo; its beauty, the ski terrain, the warm hospitality and fun and will want to come back again and again.
The owners of Portillo have also built a sister lodge in the Atacama Desert called Tierra Atacama.
