Exciting tailormade holidays to Ecuador & The Galapagos Islands

Ingapirca

A few hours north of Cuenca and an easy day trip by road are the Ingapirca ruins, Ecuador’s most important Inca site.

The Inca Empire extended from what is now Central Chile northward through Peru and into Ecuador in modern day South America. The Inca population centres were connected by an elaborate and well-maintained system of roads, over 3000 miles in length.

Ingapirca means ‘stone wall’ and it is an archaeological site with an Inca monument in the form of a unique elliptical-shaped temple. The complex was built up on top of Cañari ruins 500 years ago and it is thought to have housed soldiers stationed at this strategic site between Quito and Cusco.
