This is a fantastic holiday - Costa Rica is a nature lover’s dream – a land crammed with breathtaking tropical forest, a mind-boggling variety of fauna, active volcanoes and jungle-fringed beaches. This itinerary starts in San José and then continues to Tortuguero National Park for a 3-day visit. Tortuguero (which means Turtle in Spanish) is the most important nesting site in the western half of the Caribbean for the endangered green turtle (green turtles nesting July through September). From Tortuguero you will travel to the Arenal area to explore the volcanoes and hanging bridges. Monteverde is in the cloud forest, where a wildlife area has been created to protect the flora and fauna, as well as to focus on scientific studies and educational environmental programs. Afterwards continue to Manuel Antonio National Park dotted with white sandy beaches, you can expect to see more wildlife and a have a very good chance to see sloths.

Itinerary:

Day 1: UK - San Jose.
Upon arrival transfer to your hotel. Evening at leisure.

Day 2: San Jose - Tortuguero
Transfer to Tortuguero. On-route, enjoy the biodiversity of Braulio Carrillo National Park. Ongoing transfer by boat along the Tortuguero Canals. Upon reaching the Caribbean lowlands, lunch and hike in the forest. After lunch, we will visit the museum, the beach area and picturesque little town of Tortuguero. A delightful dinner will be served upon arrival at the lodge.

Day 3: Tortuguero National Park
Experience the awakening of the rain forest in the lodge. Boat Tour to the small canals for wildlife observation, toucans, caimans, turtles, monkeys and more. In the evening, walk on the beach and admire the green turtles nesting (July through September). All meals included.

Day 4: Tortuguero National Park - Arenal Volcano
Crossing banana plantations transfer to the Arenal Volcano area. Enjoy time at leisure to explore in the afternoon.

Day 5: Arenal Volcano
In the morning you will have a horseback riding experience to La Fortuna Waterfall. Enjoy a swim. In the afternoon hike in the Arenal Volcano National Park on solidified lava trails and magnificent views to the Arenal Lake. Afterwards visit the Tabacon Hot Springs with dinner (included).

Day 6: Hike in the Tenorio National Park / Rio Celeste
Morning departure to the Guatuso Lowland area and hike in the Tenorio National Park to see the Rio Celeste Waterfall and the origin of the light blue river and lagoon. This is a stunning day that should not be missed. Note reasonable fitness is required.

Day 7: Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve
Scenic transfer by boat across the Arenal Lake and transfer by bus to Monteverde atop de Continental Divide. Upon arrival naturalist hike through hanging bridges. ( Sky Walk ) The Sky Walk is a combination of suspension bridges and platforms built in the cloud forest to offer an opportunity to explore the forest canopy in a safe and easy manner. The tour includes 2.5 Km of trails and six treetop level bridges across deep canyons. The longest bridge is about 243 meters in length.

Day 8: Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve
Enjoy a natural history hike with our naturalist tour guide through the trails of the Monteverde Cloud Forest Rerserve.

Day 9: Central Pacific Coast – Manuel Antonio / Quepos
Transfer down to the Central Pacific Coast to Manuel Antonio. In the afternoon hike with our naturalist guide in the trails of the famous Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, spot birds and other wildlife.

Day 10: Manuel Antonio National Park
Guided excursion to Manuel Antonio National Park. The 3000 acres of the Manuel Antonio National Park is considered one of the most beautiful National Parks of the country. With its white sand beaches, the abundant fauna, exuberant flora, and its scenic footpaths, is one of the most visited in the country. It includes a wooded area, densely populated by monkeys and raccoons, and three exceptionally beautiful beaches, is one of the few areas in which rare squirrel monkey can be found, you are also like to see sloths.

Day 11: Savegre River Rafting Class III
The Savegre River, which cascades down from the remote Talamanca mountain range, is one of Costa Rica’s most pristine waterways. Seven men U-paddle rafts are used in the rainy season; as the water level drops two-man inflatable kayaks are used, which guarantee plenty of action as you follow your guides in safety kayaks. A hot lunch is served along the river.

Day 12: Manuel Antonio National Park - San Jose and flight back home.
Transfer back to San Jose and overnight.

Day 13: San Jose – home
Transfer to the airport for your flight home.

Day 14: Arrival

Total from £1,099 per person based on 3 star accommodation excluding international flights.
