A visit to the island must include time spent in Havana, or rather the colonial heart of the capital, Havana Vieja. Here, preserved architectural wonders still stand proud, some with history dating back more than 400 years, while old time Ladas and Cadillacs pass by on the streets below.
Visas
British nationals require a tourist card to enter Cuba. You need a tourist card before you travel and you should contact the Cuban Embassy in London for further information on entry requirements in good time.
When to go
Cuba has a warm tropical climate with two distinct seasons. The best time to visit is from December to May with dry sunny days. From June to November Cuba can be hot, humid and wet. During the winter months of December and January daytime temperatures can drop below 20 degrees centigrade whilst in the summer months of July and August temperatures soar, especially in Havana and Santiago de Cuba.
The hurricane season begins in June and in some years can continue through to November.
Getting there
Flights to Cuba take between 10-12 hours, and Cuba is 5 hours behind the UK.
