Mashpi Lodge, situated at 950 metres above sea level on the western slopes of the Andes, is a new lodge within a private reserve that protects a small piece of one of the world's most important biodiversity hotspots. The lodge, powered 100% by its own hydroelectricity and adhering to the highest environmental standards, has a total of 22 suites.

Three "Yaku" suites (meaning "water" in the Kichwa language) have their own Jacuzzis-with-a-view. For those looking for wellness in the forest, the lodge includes a Jacuzzi with panoramic views and two massage rooms with specialized local treatments.

There is also an outdoor terrace area for taking in the forest in all its glory.

Complementing this distinctive take on the 'rainforest experience' comes superb cuisine prepared from Ecuador's rich cornucopia of fresh ingredients by highly-experienced chefs.

A prestigious Ecuadorian designer is working on making the Mashpi experience unlike any other rainforest lodge in the country, if not the region.

The upscale lodge makes the ideal springboard for adventure, with trails winding through the 1,200-hectare Reserve, numerous waterfalls and rivers to bathe in, orchid gardens to explore and a 2-kilometre aerial tram.

This cable car system includes four open gondolas, each with a capacity for six guests and a guide, allowing visitors to enjoy an unparalleled extended exploration of one of the Earth's richest and least-explored biomes: the forest canopy.

As part of the project, the lodge has hired several Ecuadorian biologists, who have recently made important findings, such as three bird display sites  for stunning cotinga, cock-of-the-rock and umbrella birds. Over the coming months they will no doubt make more discoveries of the Reserve's riches.
