Mexico is located in the northern region of the American continent between the Gulf of Mexico on the east and the Pacific Ocean on the west. It is bordered by the United States on the north and by Guatemala and Belize on the south. Mexico’s land area can be divided roughly into 6 areas:
Northern Mexico - known for extreme weather conditions and characterised by deserts, nature reserves and rugged mountain ranges.
Central Mexico - the Mexican heartland with plenty of natural surroundings, picturesque towns full of life and colour and beautiful colonial cities.
Southern Mexico and the Gulf of Mexico - offering an abundance of marshes, mangrove swamps and forests, all ideal for ecotourism and outdoor adventures.
The Yucatan Peninsula - the gateway to the Mayan world - enjoy the white-sand beach resorts and the blue waters of the Caribbean Sea.
The Pacific Coast - here you will find cities and towns with rich cultural and culinary traditions, as well as some of the best beaches for water sports.
The Baja California Peninsula Territory has been inhabited since time immemorial. Famous for Gray whales.
Visas
Visas are not required for UK passport holders. US Passport holders also do not require a visa.
When to Go
While Mexico can be considered a year round destination, there is a rainy season between May and end of October. Generally this means that the mornings are nice, yet the afternoons can experience heavy rainfalls. The hottest and wettest time to visit most places is between June and September. Late September/October are hurricane season along the gulf and the south/central Pacific Coast. More than half the country enjoys a temperate mountain climate and it can be particularly chilly (down to freezing) in inland northern Mexico from November to February.
