Shambala Petit Hotel
Shambala Petit Hotel is possibly paradise rediscovered with miles of soft, powdery - white beach contrasting with cobalt seas. There are ten cool cabanas, each distinct from the others, sitting in a horse shoe shape facing the ocean, between coconut palms.
The positioning of the hotel make it perfect for swimming, strolling and kayaking and there are ample opportunities for chilling out on day beds under white parasols, in hammocks etc.
The spa on site offers a range of massages and yoga classes - held daily. Although it's hard to get yourself going (once you are so relaxed that you are horizontal), it is possible to go on some great tours arranged by your hosts to Mayan ruins, jungles teeming with life and cenotes (collapsed caves).
All the cabanas are simply but comfortably furnished with white walls and curtains, mosquito net draped beds, cosy duvets for chilly nights, good quality furniture and a ceiling fan for hot tropical evenings. The fan and lights work from dusk till dawn; romantic candles also help illuminate the hotel at night. Be warned the plumbing is a little basic, lights can be dim and you are encouraged not to keep any food in your cabanas, as you're in the jungle at the end of the day…
