Hacienda Chichen
Hacienda Chichen is just a stone’s throw away from the great site (Chichen Itza) itself. A seventeenth century house turned hotel with large pool, it was previously used as a base by the archaeologists who were exploring the ruins in 1923 and the rooms in the hotel have been used after them.
With hammocks hanging around the place and rocking chairs on the verandas, it is a great place to stay for a number of reasons, not least because you have the opportunity to beat the tour buses and head into
Shady pathways lead you to your rooms, which is one of just 29 and all are well spread out amongst the grounds to ensure a bit of privacy. There is also a new spa. It is surprisingly serene and tranquil here.
Children under 12 stay for free if sharing a room with full paying adult (maximum of 2 children per room). Babysitting and cots are available on request.
It is fine to go at any time of the year, the prices remain the same and weather-wise, this area is temperate all year round (although temperatures and rainfall rise from May through until October).
We recommend that you stay for at least 2 nights or even 3, which would then give you two full days to explore
“The traveller on a more moderate budget has good hacienda choices in the Yucatan. Among them is Hacienda Chichen, a 16th century landmark next door to the popular Chichen-Itza archaeological site. This handsome hacienda is framed by gardens and offers rooms as well as cottages. It also has a library, dining room and satellite TV."
St Petersburg Times, 2006
