The Pacific Coast

The Pacific Coast of Mexico is where you will find some of the best beaches around.  There is year round good weather (more or less…).

Nowadays there are lots of great little and some not-so-little beach resorts all along this coast, but at one stage Acapulco was the one and only resort, famous for its cliff top diving.

Costalegre
The Costalegre is a remote, pristine paradise that links Puerto Vallarta with Barra de Navidad and Manzanillo. This 133 mile (212 km) stretch along the Mexican Pacific offers unspoilt tropical jungle, mountains, mango, papaya and coconut plantations, hidden beaches, bays and lagoons filled with exotic water birds, tiny fishing villages and a few very exclusive luxury hotels.

El Tamarindo, 45 minutes north of Manzanillo, has 29 thatched-roof villas, each with a plunge pool. The property is situated on 2,000 acres of tropical forest and deserted beaches, with a rustic spa and stunning 18-hole golf course. More...

Tides Zihuatanejo Hotel (formerly known as Hotel Villa del Sol) is a small luxury beach hotel, a classy resort, tastefully decorated with Mexican art and crafts, enjoying an enviable beach front location on Play La Ropa, by the village of Zihuatanejo. There are 35 rooms and 35 suites located in villas amongst the tropical gardens. More…

La Casa Que Canta sits pretty high on a cliff, overlooking Zihuatanejo Bay, La Casa Que Canta is a unique hotel with great sea views. Just a five minute walk and you are at the beach, Playa Ropa. There are 25 air-conditioned suites. More…

Verana is certainly off the beaten track and more adventurous travellers should not miss a stay at this unique place. From Puerto Vallarta a short road transfer brings you to Boca de Tomatlan — the last beach you can reach by car. From there it's a 30 minute boat ride along the beautiful coast to Yelapa, where you will be awaited by mules on the beach who will carry your luggage to the hotel and you will be expected to walk the short way up the dirt track. Mahakua Hacienda San Antonio is hard to get to, tucked away as it is in unspoilt countryside, but definitely worth the effort. It was built in 1879 by a German expat called Arnoldo Vogel, who made his fortune with a vast coffee plantation that stretched all the way to the Pacific coast. The hacienda was then bought by Sir James Goldsmith in the 1970s and gradually restored to its elegant  former glory. More…

Extra Info: Puerto Vallarta's charm is making it famous the world over. Along with its cobblestone streets, stunning beaches, plentiful marine life, lush Sierra Madre Mountains, exceptional restaurants, fine Gourmet Festival, new golf courses and vibrant culture, It is a bit of a paradise that has maintained its unique Old Mexico charm despite the addition of these modern bits and bobs.

Around the bay, beautiful beaches, lush jungles and sparkling waterfalls offer many opportunities for the adventurous, while five star resorts, world-class shopping and gourmet restaurants satisfy even the most sophisticated traveller. Stretching from the south end of Old Town to central downtown, a newly extended and refurbished boardwalk along the ocean, called the Malecon, passes by any number of shops, restaurants, and hotels and often plays host to mimes, breakdancers, clowns and artists.

The main attraction of Zihuatanejo is the sheltered Bahía Zihuatanejo with safe swimming. Several lovely beaches surround the bay, including the Playa La Ropa ("Beach of the clothes") and the Playa Las Gatas ("Beach of the she-cats"), the first named after a shipwreck including Chinese silk, the latter named after little, harmless sharks called "she-cats" because of their whiskers.

Manzanillo makes a great getaway with world famous beaches, festivals with lots of local flavour and fabulous outdoor activities. Splash it up (grab a surf or boogie board), catch dinner (lots of sport fishing) peer into the insides of a volcano or explore the deep blue sea. Manzanillo has it all.
