Verana

Verana is certainly off the beaten track and more adventurous travellers should not miss a stay at this unique place. From Puerto Vallarta a short road transfer brings you to Boca de Tomatlan - the last beach you can reach by car. From there it's a 30 minute boat ride along the beautiful coast to Yelapa, where you will be awaited by mules on the beach who will carry your luggage to the hotel and you will be expected to walk the short way up the dirt track.

Verana has eight rustic yet sophisticated little houses, each entirely different in concept and feel, arranged on a stretch of hillside dotted with palms, citrus and mango trees.All of course with sweeping views of the mountains and ocean. Each is a work of art, hand-crafted with care and creativity by owners Heinz Leger, a former film production designer, and prop stylist Veronique Lieve. Each has a private terrace and two beds - but there are not TVs, telephones, stereos, or other distractions.

The European-trained chef prepares scrumptious creations - global cuisine with a touch of Mexico.

Steep stone pathways link the pool, bar area and restaurant with the various houses - if you're not fit when you arrive, you will be when you leave!

Verana is open from November to June.
