Peak’ in Quechuan and it is a pre-Columbian Inca site located 2,450 meters (7,875 ft) above sea level. It is situated on a narrow mountain ridge above the Río Urubamba between the mountains
Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu, 50 miles northwest of
Cusco.
Aguas Calientes is also known as
Machu Picchu Pueblo. It is the closest town to
Machu Picchu which is 6km away or about 1.5 hours walk (which contains a lot of steps). There are many hotels and restaurants here with numbers growing all the time, as well as natural hot baths, which give the town its name.
