The mysterious Nasca Lines have long been an attraction in Peru. Was there a plan, a purpose to the enormous sweep of swirls and spirals and geometric shapes that make up the Nasca plain? The enigma of the Nasca lines has been called one of the most baffling in all archaeology, shrouded in myth and mystery even to this day. Come and see them.

To truly experience the strange wonder of the mazes and shapes of the Nasca lines, the best way is to fly over them. Only then is it possible to take in the magic of these massive etchings, some up to 1,000 feet in size. However, for those who prefer not to ride in the tiny plane (which is strictly weather permitting) there is an observation tower which allows visitors to catch a glimpse of three of the shapes.

You should be aware that Peru was struck by an earthquake, measuring 7.9 on the Richter scale, on 15 August 2007. The earthquake mostly affected Peru’s wine regions of Pisco, Chincha and Ica (around 100 miles south of Lima), but also Nasca. These areas are still very much picking up the pieces and while the vines themselves – which cover several thousand hectares - remain largely intact, most winery buildings and the adobe homes of vineyard workers were flattened.
