This itinerary is a classic Peru itinerary but with a jungle element at the end at the Tambopata Research Centre.
ITINERARY




Day 1: Depart London
Day 2: Overnight Lima
Day 3: Fly to Arequipa for a night.
Days 4-5: A long drive, over dry altiplano and with views of El Misti volcano, brings you to the Colca valley. 2 nights at the Colca Lodge, built with traditional materials and with its own hot springs. Visit the Cruz del Condor and explore the local villages.
Days 6-7: Continue on a paved road (5 hours, lovely scenery) to Lake Titicaca. 2 nights, with a full day to explore the lake area.
Days 8-9: A beautiful 10-hour train journey, with wonderful scenery, on the Andean Explorer train brings you to Cusco.
Day 10: Transfer to the Sacred Valley, visiting Pisac market, and spend a night at the simple Hostal El Sauce in Ollantaytambo, with views of the fortress.
Days 11-12: Morning train down the valley to Machu Picchu. After a tour of the Inca citadel, return to Aguas Calientes for a night at the colonial Inkaterra Machu Picchu, set in beautiful sub-tropical gardens. Afternoon return to Cusco.
Days 13-16: Fly east to Puerto Maldonado for 4 nights in the Amazon, at the Tambopata Research Centre and Refugio Amazonas.
Day 17: Return to Puerto Maldonaldo and fly to Lima. Overnight Lima.
Day 18: Depart Lima.
Day 19: Arrive UK
